Fitting
Fitting
–  Start the engine after fitting the refrigerant circuit.
–  When a new compressor is fitted or refrigerant oil is topped up (e.g. after cleaning the refrigerant circuit following the recommended methods) ⇒Repair work to the refrigerant circuit → Repair manual ; Rep. Gr.00, the compressor pulley should be pulled for 10 turns by hand, before starting the engine.
This avoids damage to the compressor.
–  If possible, the engine must only be started after the refrigerant circuit has been filled.
  Note
t  The compressor should always be pulled using the poly-V belt pulley (not available for electromagnetic clutch):
t  If the air-conditioner compressor locks, the overload protection will come off the compressor shaft. Wear on the pulley indicating a blocked compressor is not always visible. Another sign of a possible blocked compressor is the build-up of abrasive dust around the pulley.
t  The compressor is equipped with a protected oil supply to prevent any damage if the refrigerant circuit were to be empty. This means that approx. 40 to 50 cm3 of refrigerant oil remains in the air-conditioner compressor.
t  The engine may only be started once the refrigerant circuit has been correctly assembled. If, for example, the refrigerant piping has not been connected to compressor, the compressor may overheat if the engine is running (due to internal heating), and may eventually break down.
t  However, given that there is no refrigerant, the refrigeration oil necessary for compressor lubrication is not moved.
t  The air-conditioner compressor regulating valve -N280- does not work when the refrigerant circuit is empty and the compressor is operating at idling speed with the engine.
t  If the engine must be started with the refrigeration circuit empty:
t  The refrigerant circuit must always be fully mounted.
t  There must be at least a quarter of the refrigerant oil required by the refrigerant circuit in the compressor.
t  The engine speed must not exceed 2500 rpm.
t  The engine must only be running as long as strictly necessary.
  Note
On starting the engine for the first time after filling the refrigerant circuit, remember:
–  To start the engine with the compressor disconnected and wait until the idling speed is stable.
13
–  Open all instrument panel vents.
–  To connect the air conditioning and leave the engine idling for at least 5 min.
