Removing and installing expansion valve
Removing and installing expansion valve
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-
  W00-0427
t  Air conditioner service station -VAS 6007A- (or later model).
  Note
t  The expansion valve atomises incoming refrigerant and regulates the flow so that, depending on the heat transport, the vapour does not become a gas until it reaches the outlet of the evaporator.
t  The refrigerant must be extracted beforehand, e.g. with air conditioner service station -VAS 6007A- (or later model).
t  Releasing refrigerant into the environment is a punishable offence.
t  Comply with notes → Chapter.
t  In vehicles with start-stop system, note abort conditions → Chapter.
Perform the following jobs:
Removing
–  Unscrew bolts -1- (10 Nm) of refrigerant lines -2-.
–  Carefully pull refrigerant line -2- out of expansion valve -4-.
–  Unscrew bolts -8- (5 Nm) from expansion valve -4-.

–  Carefully pull off expansion valve -4-.
Installing
–  Install expansion valve in reverse order of removal, noting the following:
t  Always renew O-rings of high-pressure refrigerant lines-3 and 5-.
t  Always renew O-rings of low-pressure refrigerant lines-6 and 7-.
t  Before fitting, moisten O-ring with refrigerant oil.
