  Note
t  Before starting electrical welding work on the vehicle, disconnect the positive pole from the battery and connect it to earth in order to protect the heater control unit -J162-.
t  A manufacturer's plate is attached to the heater unit. This plate provides information about the type of heater unit installed in the vehicle → Fig..
t  The heater unit of the -D5W- Z has the same structure as the heater unit of the -D5W- S → Chapter.
t  Before every repair, please read out the fault memory of the control unit vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-.
t  Check the coolant circuit after working on it.
t  Components identified with * are checked by the self-diagnosis function.
   
1 - Metering pump -V54-*
q   Installation position: in front of fuel tank on the right
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   Fuel supply to auxiliary heater → Chapter.
2 - Heater unit *
q   With heater control unit -J162-
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   Dismantling and assembling → Chapter
3 - Exhaust system
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   Securing silencer to heater unit → Chapter
4 - Coolant hoses
q   Coolant hose routing; connecting auxiliary heater to coolant circuit → Chapter.
5 - Ambient temperature switch -F38-
q   Switch position -On- at temperatures lower than approx. 10 °C.
q   Check switch positions with vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A- in “Guided fault finding” function
q   Removing → Fig.
q   Checking → Chapter

  Note
t  The most important technical data are shown on upper part of manufacturer's plate.
t  Only the 25 2163 version for -D5W- Z is factory-fitted in the Alhambra 06.2000 ►.
t  The heat exchanger for the auxiliary heaters does not have to be renewed after 10 years. Legislation in Germany dictates only that air heaters must be renewed.

Removing ambient temperature switch -F38-
–  Unclip ambient temperature switch -F38--1- from holder on left in plenum chamber.
  Note
In vehicles from model year 10.1998, the wiper motor must also be replaced → Rep. Gr.92.
–  Check ambient temperature switch -F38- → Chapter.
