Sealing ring without sleeve for flanged shaft, right hand side: Removing and installing   WARNING t  Check if the vehicle is equipped with Start-Stop system. t  If this should be the case, observe the safety precautions for vehicles with start-stop system. → Chapter t  Removing → Anchor t  Fitting → Anchor Removing l  Gearbox must be fitted

Diesel engine vehicles: –  Remove bolts -1 ... 3- and remove central soundproofing panel.

Vehicles with petrol engine: –  Remove bolts -1- and - 2- and remove central soundproofing panel. All vehicles (continued): –  Turn steering to full right lock.

–  Unbolt the heat shield for the right hand side wheel driveshaft -arrows-.

–  Separate the driveshaft -1- from the gearbox flange → Rep. gr.40. –  Place below the collecting tray -T20173-. –  If necessary, disconnect turbocharger oil return line from engine -arrow- → Rep. gr.21. –  Secure wheel drive shaft above, taking care not to damage surface protection or the drive shaft paint.

–  Unscrew securing bolt of right flanged shaft arrow. To do this, screw two bolts into flange and immobilise shaft with a lever. –  Remove flange shaft along with spring, thrust washer and tapered ring.

–  Remove flanged shaft seal by levering with extractor -T20143-.   Note t  Do not damage sleeve. Otherwise, leaks will occur. t  In case of deterioration, replace the sleeve. Fitting –  Lightly oil outer circumference of oil seal.

–  Fill the space between the sealant lip and the dust guard -arrow- half way with sealant grease → Electronic spare parts catalogue (ETKA).

–  Turn the nut -A- until the sealing ring is inserted all the way (keeping it straight) using the fitting tool -T20133-.

–  Secure flanged shaft with conical bolt, using counterhold -T20005-. –  Tighten the conical bolt to stipulated torques → Item.

–  Screw the drive shaft -1- to the flange shaft → Rep. gr.40. –  If previously unscrewed, screw the turbocharger oil return line back onto the engine → Rep. gr.21. Rest of installation is carried out in the reverse sequence, observing the following: –  Check oil level . → Chapter. –  Fit noise insulation → Rep. gr.50. Tightening torques
