Removing
  Note!
To carry out this work it will be necessary to disconnect the battery earth strap. The vehicle should be checked for a fitted radio. If necessary, obtain radio anti-theft code first.
–  Remove the engine cover.
–  Remove battery and battery retainer: → Electrical System; Rep. Gr.27
   
–  Uncouple the flexible intake pipe -1- and the connector -2- from the air mass meter.
–  Remove flexible vacuum pipe -3-.
–  Then unscrew bolts -4- and -5-.
–  Separate the air filter unit.
–  Uncouple the speedometer connector.
–  Uncouple the road speed sender connector -G68- and the multi-function connector.

–  Remove the electrical connections -arrow- from the gearbox.
–  Remove the wiring harness from its bracket on the starter motor and put it to one side.
–  Remove bracket for the cable harness located on the the starter motor.
–  Remove the earth cable from the upper bolt securing the engine to the gearbox.
–  Place the selector lever in “P” position.

–  Loosen the bolt -3- securing the selector lever -2- to the selection rod -5-.
–  Undo the circlip -1- from the counter support and remove the selector lever cable -2-.
  Note!
Avoid bending or twisting the selector lever cable.

–  Clamp the ATF radiator hoses with tool -U-30042-.
–  Release the clips on the ATF radiator hoses with tool -T20029- and disengage them.
–  Cap off the radiator hoses.
–  Remove the upper bolts that secure the engine to the gearbox.

–  Fit support tool -U-30025E-.
  Note!
Remove all cable brackets and hoses that could interfere with the fitting of support tool -U-30025E-.
–  Slightly tighten the engine assembly gearbox via the spindles.

Completely remove the console for the left part of the engine support assembly.
–  Remove bolts -A- and -B-.
  Note!
Bolts -C- must be taken into account.
–  Remove the bolt for the front console coolant hose.

–  Unbolt the front console from the engine and gearbox bracket.
–  Remove left wheel.
–  Remove the insulation tray: → Bodywork repairs - installation work, exterior; Rep. Gr.50

–  Remove the protective plate -1- for the ATF sump.
–  Remove the gearbox bracket -2- for the PAS pipe.
–  Remove the starter motor -3-: → Electrical system; Rep. Gr.27

–  Remove the front side engine support -arrows-.
  N37-0628
–  Remove the counterweight -A- from the sub-frame. Mark fitting position.
–  Unbolt the right-hand drive shaft from the articulation flange and tie it up high.
–  Remove left-hand drive shaft: → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. Gr.40
–  Remove the protective cover from the crankshaft pulley.
–  Remove protective plate from the flywheel.
  N37-0623
–  Unbolt bolt -arrow- from the torque converter (3 bolts). To do so, the crankshaft must be turned 120° every time.

–  Fit the -T20138- securing tool together with the -T20145- base on the hydraulic column jack -SAT 1040-.
–  Place the tool underneath the gearbox so that it is positioned parallel and as close as possible to the gearbox sump.
–  Fit the tool to the gearbox.
  Note!
Lock the securing rods of tool -T20138- with the counterbolts and tighten the central bolt.
–  Remove the lower connecting bolts from the engine/gearbox.
–  Separate the gearbox from the engine, pressing down at the same time on the torque converter to disengage it from the flywheel.
–  Press the torque converter against the ATF pump.
–  Lower the gearbox a little.

–  Hold the torque converter using the -T20021- tool.
  Note!
Ensure that the bolt on tool -T20021- is well tightened. If the bolt is not tightened well, the converter could disengage from the gearbox, and risk an accident when handling the gearbox during disassembly.
–  Lower the gearbox taking care not to damage any component.
  Note!
Take care when lowering the gearbox with the power steering pressure pipe.
