Features of self-diagnosis
The engine control unit (the 1AV -J382- injection and ignition system control unit) is equipped with a fault memory.
If faults occur in the sensors and components being monitored, they will be stored in the fault memory together with an indication of the type of fault.
Faults which only occur sporadically are printed with the addendum “sporadic fault.” These faults will be indicated on the display by the addendum “/SP”. The cause of sporadic faults can be due to a loose contact or an intermittent break in a cable. If the sporadic fault does not occur again within 40 engine starts, it is erased from the fault memory.
The faults stored can be read with fault reader -V.A.G 1551- or -V.A.G 1552- → Chapter.
Once fault/s are eliminated, the fault memory should be erased → Chapter.
  Note!
For general information about self-diagnosis, see the instruction manuals for testers -V.A.G 1551- and -V.A.G 1552-
