  Caution
When installing a new partial engine, the clamping pieces of the injector must be tightened to the specified tightening torque following installation of the high pressure lines → Chapter. The clamping pieces are supplied tightened »hand tight« so that the position of the injectors can be adjusted during the installation of the high pressure lines. Non-observance of these details may lead to damage to the engine.
   
1 - cylinder block
q   Removing and installing sealing flange and flywheel → Chapter.
q   Dismantling and assembling pistons and conrods → Chapter
2 - Knock sensor
3 - Bolt for knock sensor
q   20 Nm
4 - Engine speed sender -G28-
q   removing and fitting → Chapter
5 - Bolt for engine speed sender -G28-
q   5 Nm
6 - Seal
q   Replace
7 - Oil filter bracket
q   Dismantling and assembling → Chapter.
8 - Bolts for balancer shaft module
q   20 Nm
9 - Bolts for oil filter bracket
q   14 Nm + 180°
q   removing and fitting → Chapter
q   First fit upper left and lower right bolts and then tighten all four bolts diagonally.
10 - Bolts for thermostat
q   15 Nm
q   removing and fitting → Chapter
11 - 4/2-way valve with thermostat
q   removing and fitting → Chapter
12 - O ring
q   Replace
13 - Balance shaft assembly
q   Before installing, check if the adjustment sleeve is centred relative to the cylinder block and if the O-ring is fitted on the bearing cap module.
q   removing and fitting → Chapter
14 - Oil pan
q   Clean sealing surface before installing
q   Install with silicone sealant -D 176 501 A1- → Chapter.
15 - Bolts for sump
q   15 Nm
16 - Bolts/bracket for ancillaries
q   Specified torques and installation sequence → Fig..
17 - Bolts/bracket for ancillaries
q   Specified torques and installation sequence → Fig..
18 - Double bolt/bracket for ancillaries
q   Specified torques and installation sequence → Fig..
19 - Bracket for ancillary mechanical units
q   For alternator, air conditioner compressor and poly V-belt tensioning element
q   Note dowel sleeves between ancillary bracket and cylinder block
q   Removing and installing → Chapter.
20 - Bolts for lifting eye
q   25 Nm
21 - Attachment rings
22 - Bolt.
q   Replace
q   Specified torques and installation sequence → Fig..
23 - Bolt.
q   Replace
q   Specified torques and installation sequence → Fig..
24 - Engine support
q   removing and fitting → Chapter
25 - Bracket for particulate filter
26 - Nuts (particulate filter bracket)
q   25 Nm
q   Replace
27 - Bolts for deflector cap/drive shaft
q   35 Nm

   
Ancillary bracket - specified torques and tightening sequence
  Note
Renew securing bolts for ancillary bracket.
–  Fit bolts in the following sequence:
t  Bolts -1- and -2- M10 x 52.
t  Bolts -3- and -6- M10 x 30.
t  Bolts -4- and -5- M10 x 60.
–  Tighten bolts in 4 stages in the sequence shown:
  A13-10534
stage:BoltsTightening torque / turning further angle
1.-1 … 6-Screw in bolts by hand until they make contact
2.-1 … 6-40 Nm
3.-3- and -6-turn 45° further
4.-1, 2, 4, 5-turn 90° further

  Note
   
Renew bolts for engine bracket.
–  Tighten bolts in 3 stages in the sequence shown:
  N13-10361

1.-1 … 3-7 Nm
2.-1 … 3-40 Nm
3.-1 … 3-turn 180° further
 1) Renew.
