t  Box wrench set for lambda probe -3337-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Tension belt -T00038-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Adjustment tool -T10096-, please see Correspondence → Anchor
t  Adjustment tool -T10395-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor.
t  Engine/gearbox crane -VAG 1383A-, see equivalent → Anchor

   
t  Retainer (transport lock) -T10403-
–  Turn wheels to straight ahead position.
–  Loosen universal joint → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr.48.

–  To do this, remove cover -2- and unscrew plastic nuts -1-.

–  Unscrew the bolts -1- on the universal joint and remove the universal joint in -the direction of the arrow-.
–  Remove engine cover panel → Chapter.

–  Disconnect the following connectors:
t  -1-exhaust temperature sender 1 -G235- connector
t  -2-exhaust temperature sender 3 -G495- connector
t  -3-exhaust temperature sender 4 -G648- connector
t  -4-Lambda probe -G39- connector

–  Separate connector to pressure differential sender -G505--2-.
–  Unscrew pressure differential sender -G505--3-.
–  Pull lines out of retainers on engine and remove heat shield from particulate filter; if necessary remove cable ties.
–  Unscrew Lambda probe -G39- using Lambda probe open ring spanner set -3337- → Item.
–  Unscrew exhaust temperature sender 3-G495- using the spanner -T10395/6- → Item.

–  Remove securing clamp -1- between particulate filter and turbocharger.
–  Unscrew the bolt -2-.
–  Undo bolt -3- and swivel bracket towards the front.
–  Remove noise insulation → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.50.

–  Open bracket -B- of hydraulic lines -A-.

–  Remove pendulum support -arrows-.
  Note
Disregard: -Pos. 1-.
–  Place engine and gearbox jack -VAG 1383A- under subframe.
–  Unscrew the bolts of the engine assembly one after another and replace them with the adjustment tools → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr.40.
–  Loosen anti-roll bar at top of coupling rod → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr.40.
–  Carefully lower subframe with engine and gearbox jack -VAG 1383A-; steering remains on subframe.
The hydraulic steering circuit does not need to be opened for this → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr.40.

–  Lower on the right side max. 10 cm -movement arrow-.
–  To prevent the hydraulic lines being overstretched, lower on the left side max. 7 cm.
  Note
Secure subframe with steering box to underbody of vehicle using tensioning strap -T10038-, so that the hydraulic lines are not stressed.

–  Unscrew securing bolts -1- and unbolt cover for right drive shaft from cylinder block.

–  Unscrew the exhaust temperature sensor 4 -G648- from the exhaust pipe behind the particulate filter. -Pos. 1-.

–  Unscrew bolts -1- and then nuts -2-.
–  Removing the bracket of the particle filter.
  Note
The flexible joint in the front exhaust pipe must not be bent more than 10° - otherwise it can be damaged.

If the particle filter should be re-used, the separating element on the exhaust pipe must always be protected using a protective sleeve or a transport lock -T10403--arrow-.

–  Slacken the fastening nuts -arrows- of the clamping sleeve and then lower the exhaust pipe to the rear.
–  Detach front exhaust pipe from mounting brackets.
Carefully remove the particle filter with the pressure differential sender -G505- taking them out via the lowered subframe in the process.

–  Turn the particulate filter by 180° remove from its shaft.
