Safety precautions when working on fuel supply system > < Parts of fuel supply system

1 - Retaining clip
2 - Sealing plug
3 - Oil seal
q   Replace if damaged
4 - Filler cap set
q   With dustguard
q   Removing and installing → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.55.
5 - Gravity valve
q   For removal, remove the fuel tank cap → Item, undo the securing tab and push the inlet valve out, upwards.
Check valve for through-flow.
q   Perpendicular valve: open.
q   Valve inclined ± 45°: closed.
6 - Earth connection
q   Check that it is seated securely
7 - 10 Nm
8 - Breather line
q   Between active carbon filter → Item and vent pipe → Item
q   Check that it is seated securely
9 - Active carbon filter
q   Installation location: in front right wheel housing
q   Activated charcoal filter system → Chapter
10 - 10 Nm
11 - Breather line
q   Clipped onto fuel tank
q   Check that it is seated securely
12 - 25 Nm
q   5 units
13 - Fuel tank
q   When removing, support using engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A-.
q   removing and fitting → Chapter
q   If the fuel tank has been replaced, the fuel supply system must be bled → Chapter
14 - tension belt
15 - Breather line
q   For theSolenoid valve 1 for the active carbon filter system (pulsed) -N80-, in the engine compartment
q   Check that it is seated securely
16 - Fuel filter:
q   With pressure regulator.
q   replace → Chapter
q   Fitting position: Arrow indicates direction of flow
q   The fuel pressure regulator can be found in the fuel filter.
q   If the fuel filter has been replaced, the fuel supply system must be bled → Chapter
17 - Fuel supply line
q   Black
q   Check that it is seated securely
q   To the fuel distributor in the intake manifold
18 - 5 Nm
q   for the clamping bracket for the fuel filter
19 - Fuel delivery unit
q   Note fitting position on fuel tank → Fig.
q   removing and fitting → Chapter
q   Checking fuel pump → Chapter.
q   With fuel level indicator sender -G-
q   Separating and fitting the fuel level sender → Chapter
q   Clean strainer if dirty
20 - Seal
q   Replace if damaged
q   Moisten with fuel for installation
21 - Hood nut, 80 Nm
q   Remove and install using wrench -3217-.
22 - Delivery line
q   To fuel filter → Item
q   Clipped to the fuel tank
q   Check for secure seating.
q   Black
q   To pull off flange, press release button on connecting piece.
23 - Return pipe
q   Blue colour or blue mark
q   Clipped to the fuel tank
q   Check for secure seating.
q   To pull off flange, press release button on connecting piece.
24 - Vent valve
q   Checking → Fig.
q   To remove pull locking latch lightly to inside and pull valve out
q   To get access to the breather valve, remove the fuel tank cover unit → Bodywork, exterior fitting work; Rep. gr.55
q   Before fitting, unscrew the cap

   
Fitting position of fuel delivery unit flange
Marking on detector must align with the marking on fuel tank -arrows-.
Return pipe -2- (blue or with blue marking) to connection marked -R-.
Black supply pipe -3- to connection with -V- .
  Note
After installing fuel delivery unit flange, check that the supply, return and breather pipes are still clipped onto the fuel tank.

Checking breather valve
Lever in rest position: closed.
Lever pushed in direction of arrow: open.

Before installing vent valve remove fuel tank cap.
