t  Pressure tester -VAG 1527B-
t  Auxiliary cable kit -VAG 1594C-
t  Adapter cable -VAG 1598/31-

t  Adapter cable -VAG 1598/22-
t  Current flow diagrams, electrical fault finding and fitting locations
Test prerequisites
l  The fuses must be OK.
l  Battery voltage 11.5 V
l  Hall sender -G40-, correct; check → Chapter.
l  Engine speed sender -G28-, correct; check → Chapter.
Checking sequence
  Note
Ignition coils and their respective output stages are one unit.
  W00-0514
–  Remove the ignition coil connector to be tested -arrows-.

Switch on ignition. Specification: min. 11.5 V

–  Switch ignition OFF.
If no voltage is present:

–  Check, using circuit diagram, for open cable circuit between:
  A24-0094
4-pin connector, contact
3Relay carrier
Wire resistance: max. 1.5 Ω

–  Check for open circuit between:

4-pin connector, contactConnection
2Earth
Wire resistance: max. 1.5 Ω

If the power supply is found to be correct, check activation → Anchor
Checking actuation
  WARNING
During the next test, the ignition transformer connectors or the test cables should not be touched.

–  Remove fuse No. 25 from the fuse holder.
  Note
Removing fuse 25 interrupts the voltage supply to the injectors.
  N24-1481
–  With the auxiliary cables from the auxiliary cable kit -VAG 1527B-, connect the voltage tester -VAG 1594C-, to contacts 1 + 4 (ignition output 1) and contacts 4 +2 (ignition output 2) of the removed connector.
–  Operate starter and check the ignition signal from engine control unit. LED lamp must flash.
–  Repeat test to connectors on the remainder of the cylinders.
–  Switch ignition OFF.
If the LED flickers and there is voltage between contacts 2 + 3:
–  Replace corresponding ignition coil with output stage → Item.
If the LED lamp does not flash:
–  Checking wiring → Anchor.

Cylinder/ContactFemale socket VAG 1598/31Female socket VAG 1598/22
Cylinder 1, contact 411257
Cylinder 2, contact 411371
Cylinder 3, contact 410076
Wire resistance: 1.5 Ω max.

–  Additionally check wires for short to one another.
t  Specification: ∞ Ω.
If no wiring fault is detected and voltage was present between contacts 2 + 3:
–  Replace the engine control unit → Chapter.
