Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Refractometer -T10007-
t  Drip tray for workshop hoist -VAS 6208-
t  Hose clip pliers -VAS 6340-
t  Coolant charger -VAS 6096-
t  Adapter for cooling system tester -V.A.G 1274/8-

   
t  Refractometer -T10007 A-
Carry out the following work:
Removal:
  WARNING
Steam may be released when opening the expansion tank. Wear eye protection and protective clothing to avoid eye injuries and scalding. Cover the cap with a cloth and open carefully.
–  Drain coolant → Chapter.
–  Removing and installing front bumper → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.63.
–  Remove the radiator → Chapter.

–  Push locking tab in -direction of arrow A- in order to unlock radiator cowl -1-.
–  Pull radiator cowl -1- in -direction of arrow B- out of retainer -2- on radiator.
–  Tilt radiator cowl -1- in -direction of arrow C- and pull it out of bottom mountings.
–  Remove radiator cowl -1-.
If the radiator cowl is to be renewed:
–  Remove radiator fan → Chapter.
Installation
Installation is in the reverse sequence of removal. Note the following:
–  Fill up with coolant → Chapter.
–  Note electrical connections and routing → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.
–  Install front bumper → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.63.
