Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-
  Note
t  If the engine control unit -J623- needs to be renewed, connect → Vehicle diagnostic tester and perform „Guided functions, Renewing engine control unit“.
t  If renewed, the engine control unit -J623- must be adapted to the electronic immobilizer → Vehicle diagnostic tester„Guided functions“.
Carry out the following work:
Removal:
–  Switch off ignition.
–  Remove battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
  Caution
When disconnecting the battery there is a risk of serious damage to electronic components:
Observe the correct procedure for disconnecting the battery.

–  Unscrew bolts -arrows- from battery tray -2-.
–  Tilt engine control unit -1- forwards together with bracket.
  N24-10795
–  Press on the locking mechanism -1- using a screwdriver in the -direction of the arrow- and keep it pressed.
–  Unlock connector -3- from engine control unit using locking bar -2-.
–  To do this, push locking bar -2- in -direction of arrow-.
–  Remove engine control unit together with bracket.
Installation
Installation is in the reverse sequence of removal. Note the following:
  N24-10797
Tightening torque:
ComponentSpecified torque .
Engine control unit to battery tray9 Nm
Battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
