Removal and indications
Removal and indications
–  First check whether a coded radio is fitted. If this is the case obtain the anti-theft coding.
–  The engine is removed from above with the gearbox.
–  With ignition switched off disconnect battery earth strap.
–  All cable ties which are opened or cut open when removing engine, must be replaced in the same position when installing engine.
–  Remove engine cover.
   
–  Set the lock holder cover in the service position, with the help of the centring part of -T20089-.
–  Drain the cooling liquid → Chapter.
–  Remove the whole air filter.
Engine codes AGR, ALH, ASV
–  Remove the hoses from the intercooler, intake manifold and turbo-charger.
Continue for all engine codes
–  Disconnect the vacuum and deaeration hoses from the engine.
–  Remove the cooling liquid hoses from the heater, cylinder head and radiator with the strip clamp pliers -T20029-.
–  Separate the wiring from the gearbox, alternator, compressor and starter motor and leave in view.
–  Disconnect the necessary wiring from the engine and put it aside.
–  Remove the gear control from the gearbox → 5-speed manual gearbox 02K/02J; Rep. Gr.34.
–  Hydraulic clutch slave cylinder (pump): removing → 5-speed manual gearbox 02K/02J; Rep. Gr.30.
Engine codes AGR, ALH, ASV
–  Remove the intercooler (danger of breakage).
Continue for all engine codes
–  Remove fuel supply and return hoses from the injection pump. Remove the fuel filter from its support (together with hoses) and put it to one side.
–  Remove the windscreen washer water tank → Rep. Gr.92.
–  Remove the Poly-V belt → Chapter.
–  Remove the pulley/vibration dampener from the crankshaft and the power assisted steering vane pump pulley.
–  Remove the right articulated half shaft and separate the left articulated half shaft from the gearbox → Running gear; Rep. Gr.40.
–  Remove the exhaust manifold or turbocharger, from exhaust pipe → Chapter.
Vehicles with power assisted steering
–  Suspend the power assisted steering reserve tank.
–  Unscrew the power assisted steering pressure pipe fixing clamps.
–  Remove the securing bolts for the power assisted steering vane pump, and fasten pump with wire to the engine support or the engine unit carrier; the hoses are connected → Running gear; Rep. Gr.48.
Vehicles with air conditioning
–  Follow the additional indications and assembly work sequences → Chapter.
–  Loosen the bolts that secure the engine unit to the engine and gearbox supports.

–  Fasten lifting hook -U-30034- (see drawing) and lift slightly with workshop jack.
  Note!
The engine unit should be handled carefully upon removal, to avoid damage to the bodywork.
To the assemble the engine, it must be fixed to the rotary trestle -AR-2204 A- with the help of the holding flanges -T20082-.
