t  auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594 A- or -V.A.G 1594 C-
t  Test box -V.A.G 1598/22-
t  Current flow diagram

Checking conditions
l  Battery voltage at least 11.5 V.
l  All electrical consumers, e.g. lights and rear window heating must be switched off.
l  If the vehicle is equipped with an air conditioner/heating system, this must be switched off.
l  Hall sender, screwed on tight.
Test sequence

–  Pull 3-pin connector off Hall sender -arrow-.
  N13-0472
–  Measure the supply voltage with the multimeter and the auxiliary cables of -V.A.G 1594 A- or -V.A.G 1594 C- between:
  N28-0131
Connector, contactConnector, contact
1 (positive)3 (earth)
Switch ignition on
Specification: 4.5 V min.

–  Switch ignition off.
If no voltage is present:

–  Connect test box -V.A.G 1598/22- to control unit wiring harness.
  N24-0709
–  Check wiring between test box and 3-pin connector for open circuit using current flow diagram.
  A24-0096
Connector, contactTest box -V.A.G 1598/22-, socket
1 (positive)62
2 (signal)60
3 (earth)54
Specification: 1.5 Ω max.

–  Additionally check wires for short to one another.
   Specification: ∞ Ω
If no wiring fault is detected and voltage was present between contacts 1 + 3:
–  Replace Hall sender -G40- → Item.
If no wiring fault is detected and no voltage was present between contacts 1+3::
–  Renew engine control unit → Item.
