Installing > < Removing and installing fuel tank
Removing
Removing
–  Note safety precautions before starting work → Chapter.
–  First check whether a coded radio is fitted. If this is the case obtain the anti-theft coding.
–  With ignition switched off disconnect battery earth strap.
–  Clean the fuel filler neck and surrounding areas.
–  Unscrew securing bolts and remove tank flap unit.
–  Fold rear seat bench forwards.
–  Remove cover from fuel delivery unit.
   
–  Pull connector -2- and return pipe/hose -1- off flange.
–  Disconnect fuel supply pipe -3- and breather pipe -4- at hose connections.
  Note!
Press buttons on hose couplings to do this.
  Caution
Fuel supply pipes are under pressure! Before removing from hose connection wrap a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling hose off connection.
–  Drain fuel tank.

–  Remove support bracket -1- from body.
–  Remove all rear exhaust system mountings from body. Then lower the exhaust system slightly and secure to body with wire.
–  Remove rear right wheel.
–  Remove rear right wheel housing liner → General body repairs; Rep. Gr.66.
–  Remove the fuel filling hole cap.
–  Remove the filling hole unit from the bodywork.
–  Dismount the attachment straps whilst holding down the fuel tank with the lift for engines and gearboxes -SAT 1001A-.

–  Extract the filling hole unit from its attachment to the fuel tank, to do so it is necessary to remove the dust cover and the fuel pipes.
  Note!
When removing the filling hole unit, pay special attention so as not to damage the internal oil seals fitted inside the tank.
–  Extract the fuel tank together with the heatproof protective plate.
