Removal: indications
  Note!
To carry out these work sequences, the battery earth strap must be disconnected. To do so, first check if the vehicle has a coled radio installed, and if necessary, check the anti-theft coding.
–  The engine is removed from above with the gearbox.
–  With the ignition off, disconnect the battery earth strap.
–  Remove the whole air filter housing.
  Note!
All cable holders which come loose or break when removing the engine should be reinstalled in the same place during engine installation.
–  Drain the cooling liquid → Chapter.
–  Remove the Poly-V belt → Chapter.
   
–  Set the lock holder cover in the service position, with the help of the centring part of -T20089-.
Vehicles with power assisted steering:
–  Suspend the power assisted steering reserve tank.
–  Remove the securing bolts for the power assisted steering vane pump, and fasten pump with wire to the engine support or the engine unit carrier; the hoses are connected: → Running gear; Rep. Gr.48.
–  Remove the fastening clamps from the power steering pressure hose.
Vehicles with an air conditioner:
–  Follow the additional indications and assembly work sequences → Chapter.
Vehicles with manual gearbox:
–  Hydraulic clutch slave cylinder (pump): removing: → 5-speed manual gearbox 02K; Rep. Gr.30.
–  Remove the gearbox control: → 5-speed manual gearbox 02K; Rep. Gr.34.
Vehicles with automatic gearbox:
–  Remove the gear selector cable from the gearbox: → Automatic Gearbox 01M; Rep. Gr.37.

–  Remove the vibration damper/belt pulley, to remove the allen bolts -arrows- the vibration damper/belt pulley screw -1- must be held.
–  Remove the flexible connection, cooling liquid, decompression and breathing hoses from the engine.

–  Remove the fuel supply -1- and return hoses -2- through the connector on the suspension turret. The fuel system is under pressure. Therefore, a cloth should be placed around the point of connection before removing the hoses.Plug the hoses to prevent the entrance of dirt into the fuel system.
–  Remove the electrical wiring from the gearbox, alternator, and starter motor and leave them in view.
–  Disconnect all necessary electrical wiring from the engine and leave it aside.
–  Remove the accelerator control cable (AEH-AKL engines).
–  Remove the right articulated half shaft and separate the left articulated half shaft from the gearbox: → Running gear; Rep. Gr.40.
–  Remove the front exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold → Chapter, Exhaust manifold, front exhaust pipe with catalyst and accessory parts.
–  Loosen the bolts which fasten the engine unit to the gearbox and engine supports.
–  Remove the windscreen washer water tank: → Installing windscreen wiper/washer; Rep. Gr.92.

–  Attach the -U-30034- lifting hook and lift slightly with workshop jack.
  Note!
The engine unit should be handled carefully upon removal, to avoid damage to the bodywork.
–  To assemble the engine, it must be fixed to the assembly trestle -Ar-2204 A- with the help of the holding flanges -T20082-.
