Condition
l  The pistons should not enter TDC.
  Note!
   
Check the assembly position of the caps: the wide cast projection -arrow A- must be pointing to the intake side and the cap number -arrow B- must be readable from the exhaust side.
–  Lubricate the sliding surfaces of the camshafts.
–  Set the camshaft.
–  Tighten caps “2” and “4”, diagonally and alternately, to a torque of 6 Nm.
–  Apply sealant a thin layer of -AMV 174 004 01- to the contact surface of caps “1” and “5”.
–  Install caps “3”, “1” and “5”, and also tighten them to a torque of 6 Nm. Install the ignition distributor to center cap “5”.
–  Continue to tighten all of the nuts by 1/4 turn (90°).
–  Insert bolts for cap “5” and tighten them to a torque of 10 Nm.
Continue assembly, following the removal work sequence in reverse order.
Assembly of the toothed belt and adjustment of the distribution timing → Chapter.
  Note!
After installing new tappets, the engine should not be started up for approximately 30 minutes. The hydraulic compensation elements should be grinded (the valves could rest on the piston).
