Tightening torques > < Securing engine to assembly stand
Notes on installing
Notes on installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse sequence, when doing this note the following:
Work sequence
–  Check clutch release bearing for wear, renew if necessary.
–  Check centring of clutch drive plate, if necessary.
–  Lightly grease clutch release bearing, release bearing guide sleeve and splines on input shaft with -G 000 100-.
–  Check whether the dowel sleeves for centralising engine/gearbox are in the cylinder block, install if necessary.
–  Swing assembly in with the aid of a second mechanic and ensure that clearance exists for the drive shafts.
–  Align engine mountings stress-free by rocking, if necessary loosen engine mountings to body.
   
–  When installing the engine mounting ensure that the pins on the bonded rubber mounting engage in the engine support bracket -arrows-.
  Note!
Assembly mounting tightening torques → Chapter.
–  Install drive shafts → Running Gear; Rep. Gr.40.
–  Connecting selector mechanism to gearbox → 6-Speed Manual Gearbox 02M; Rep. Gr.34.
–  Install front exhaust pipe → Chapter, Exhaust manifold, front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter and attachments.
–  Install secondary air pump.
–  Installing P.A.S. vane pump → Running Gear; Rep. Gr.48.
Vehicles with air conditioner
–  Install air conditioner compressor → Heater, Air Conditioning System; Rep. Gr.87.
Continued for all vehicles
–  Installing clutch cable → 6-Speed Manual Gearbox 02M; Rep. Gr.30.
–  Electrical connections and routing → Electrical System; Rep. Gr.97.
–  Install ribbed belt → Chapter.
Filling with new coolant → Chapter.
–  Install centre, left and right insulation trays: → General body repairs exterior; Rep. Gr.50
–  Install air cleaner → Chapter
–  Read fault memories of all control units → Diagnostics operations unitVAS 5051.
–  Carry out test drive and read fault memories of all control units again.
