Checking cables and components with the tester -V.A.G 1598/31-
Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Tester -VAG 1598/31-
  Note
t  The tester -VAG 1598/31- is designed to be simultaneously connected to the cable harness going to the engine control unit and the unit itself.
t  The advantage of this is that the engine control unit remains fully functional with the tester connected (e.g. signal measurment with the engine running).
t  The additional need to connect the engine control unit to the tester is described in the corresponding checking processes.
t  Always use the measuring tool set -VAG 1594C- for connecting measuring apparatus ( e.g.: the voltage tester -VAG 1527B-, hand-held multimeter -VAG 1526B-, etc.).
t  The number of connector contacts and tester connections coincide.
Test sequence
–  Switch off ignition.
–  Release the connector fixings and detach the connectors from the control unit.
  W00-0943
–  Connect the tester -VAG 1598/31- into the connectors of the cable harness. The earth clip of the tester must be connected to the battery negative.
  WARNING
To prevent irreparable damage to the electronic components, select appropriate measuring range and observe the test requirements before connecting the measuring cables.
After reconnecting the engine control unit, perform the following operations:
–  Adapting the Throttle valve control unit -J338- → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051.
–  Consult and erase fault memory if necessary → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051.
–  If the fault memory has been deleted, the readiness code must be regenerated → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051.
