  WARNING
Fuel system is under pressure! The pressure in the high-pressure part of the injection system must be reduced to a residual pressure prior to opening, see Page . . A rag must then be wrapped around the joint and the residual pressure dissipated by carefully slackening the joint.
To prevent injuries to persons and/or damage to the fuel injection and ignition system, the following must be noted:
t  For safety reasons the fuse No. 41 must be removed from the fuse holder before opening the fuel system, otherwise the fuel pump is activated by the door contact switch.
t  On performing certain tests it is possible that faults are detected and stored by the control unit. For this reason, the fault memory must be interrogated and deleted when all tests and repairs have been completed. After the fault memory is erased, it will be necessary to generate the readiness code: → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051.
t  Do not touch or remove the ignition cables with the engine running or idling.
t  Always switch off the ignition before disconnecting or reconnecting injection or ignition system wiring or tester cables.
t  Always switch off the ignition before cleaning the engine.
t  Only disconnect and connect the battery with the ignition switched off, otherwise the injection system control unit may be damaged.
Note the following if testers and measuring instruments have to be used during a road test:
t  Testers and measuring instruments must always be secured to the rear seat and operated by a 2nd person from this location.
–  If test and measuring instruments are operated from front passenger's seat and the vehicle is involved in an accident, the person sitting in this seat could be seriously injured when the airbag is triggered.
t  If the engine is to be turned at starter speed without starting:

–  Pull all 4 pin connectors -1- off ignition coils -2-.
  A28-0050
–  Pull out fuse no. 25 from the fuse carrier.
  Note
Removing fuse No. 25 interrupts the voltage supply to the injectors.
