Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  hand vacuum pump -SAT 1390-
t  vacuum tester -V.A.G 1368-
t  adapter -SAT 1368/1-

Test sequence
   
–  Remove from throtle control unit -3- the breather tube -2- from the activated charcoal filter -1-.
–  Fit tube -2- to the manual vacum pump -SAT 1390-.
–  Remove the breather tube -5- which gos from the fuel tank to the activated carbon filter and attach to tester -V.A.G 1368-“connection A”. To do this, use -SAT 1368/1- adapter.
–  Fit breather tube -4- that goes to the activated carbon filter to the testing vacum guage -V.A.G 1368-“connection B”. To do this, use -SAT 1368/1- adapter.
–  Set vacuum tester to position “B”.
–  Initiate the final control diagnosis and activate the activated charcoal filter solenoid valve -N80- an Read fault memories of all control units → Injection and Ignition System, 4LV; Rep. Gr.01..
–  Operate hand vacuum pump several times. Without creating a depression.
If vacuum builds up:
–  Check breather tube -6- from the activated carbon filter -1- for dirt, clean if necessary.
If vacuum does not build up:
–  Unscrew fuel filler cap.

–  Connect hand vacuum pump -SAT 1390- to vacuum tester -V.A.G 1368-“connection B”
–  Set vacuum tester to position “A/B”.
–  Operate hand vacuum pump several times. Without creating a depression.
If vacuum builds up:
–  Check gravity/overflow valve → Item.
–  Check pipe/hose -1- from fuel tank for blockage.
If vacuum does not build up:
–  Refit fuel filler cap.
–  Operate hand vacuum pump several times. Without creating a depression.
  Note!
If the fuel level in the tank is low the hand vacuum pump must be operated at least 20...30 times.
If vacuum builds up:
–  Replace fuel tank cap.
