Removal
Removal
–  Note safety precautions before starting work → Chapter.
–  First check whether a coded radio is fitted and if so consult the anti-theft code.
–  With the ignition switched off disconnect battery earth strap.
Commercial vehicles
–  Partially detach the front of the carpet covering the loading area.
   
–  Remove lower panels -1- of the partition.
–  Remove front panels -2-.
–  Remove floor protection plates -3-.
–  Separate the reinforcing cross member.
Kombi vehicles
–  Tilt rear seat forward.
Continued for all vehicles
–  Remove cover from fuel delivery unit.

–  Separate the connector -1-.
–  Separate the fuel supply and return pipes -2- and -3- that connect to the fuel distributor.
–  Release the breather hose -5-.
  Caution
Fuel supply pipes are under pressure. Before removing hose connections wrap a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling hose off connection.
–  Empty fuel tank.

–  Remove connecting piece -1- from body.
–  Remove all rear exhaust system brackets. Then lower the exhaust system a little hanging it from the body.
–  Remove right-hand rear wheel.
–  Clean around fuel tank cap.
–  Remove fuel tank cap and dust sleeve.
–  Detach filler pipe from body.
–  Remove bolts and fuel tank support strap resting tank on -SAT 1001A- engine/gearbox jack.

–  Remove filler mouth from tank by separating the dust sleeve and puel pipes.
  Note!
On separating the filling mouth be specially careful not to damage the internal seals of the tank.
–  Remove fultank with heat insulation plate.
