Fuel tank with accessory parts and fuel filter: removal and installation
1 - Cap
q   Renew seal if damaged
2 - Securing ring
3 - Tank flap unit
q   Removing and installing → General body repairs-assembly work; Rep. Gr.55
4 - Vent pipe
q   To activated charcoal filter → Item
5 - Gravity/overflow valve
q   To remove, release locking lug and unclip valve upwards out of filler neck
q   Check valve for through flow Valve vertical: open Valve tilted 90°: closed
q   Renew if damaged
6 - Earth connection
q   Check for secure seating
7 - 4 Nm
8 - Fuel gauge sender
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
9 - Return hose
q   Blue or with blue marking
q   Clipped onto top of fuel tank
q   Check for secure seating
q   From fuel rail → Injection and Ignition System, 4LV; Rep. Gr.24
10 - Union bolt, 75 Nm
q   Remove and install with spanner -U-40055A-
11 - Flange
q   Note fitting position on fuel tank → Fig.
12 - Corrugated tube
q   Must not touch fuel tank so as not to transmit pump noises
13 - Sealing ring
q   Renew if damaged
q   Coat with fuel when installing
14 - Fuel delivery unit
q   Note fitting position on fuel tank → Fig.
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   Checking fuel pump → Chapter
q   Clean strainer if soiled
q   Note marks -arrows- on the flange
q   Mit Geber -G- für Kraftstoffvorrat → Chapter
15 - Fuel filter
q   Assembly position: arrow indicates through-flow direction
16 - Supply pipe/hose
q   Black
q   Clipped onto top of fuel tank
q   Check for secure seating
q   To fuel rail → Injection and Ignition System, 4LV; Rep. Gr.24
17 - 3 Nm
18 - Fuel tank
q   During disassembly secure with -SAT 1001A- engine/gearbox jack
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
19 - 25 Nm
20 - Dust sleeve
q   After fitting the filler neck, fit it over the fuel tank neck
21 - Filler neck
q   With anti-return valve
22 - Vent valve
q   Checking → Fig.
q   To remove valve unclip sideways out of support
q   To remove pull locking latch lightly to inside and pull valve out
q   Before installing, unscrew cap → Item
23 - O-ring
q   Renew if damaged
24 - Dust sleeve
q   For filler neck

   
Fitting position of fuel delivery unit flange
Marking on the flange must align with marking on the fuel tank.
Return pipe blue or marked with blue -1- to connector identified by an arrow pointing towards the inside of the pump.
Delivery tube black -2- to connector identified by an arrow pointing outside the pump.
  Note!
After installing fuel delivery unit flange, check that the supply, return and breather pipes are still clipped onto the fuel tank.

Checking vent valve
Lever in rest position: closed
Lever pushed in direction of arrow: open
  Note!
Before installing vent valve remove fuel tank cap.
