Removing and installing upper part of fuel filter
Removing and installing upper part of fuel filter
Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Diesel extractor -VAS 5226-, see equivalent → Anchor
  W00-1187
t  Bent screwdriver -VAS 6543-, see equivalent → Anchor

Removal:
–  Loosen the engine cover at the locations -arrows- and remove.
  Caution
t  Do NOT remove the fuel hose from fuel filter cap and do NOT lever off the connecting supports. Levering/pulling leads to leaks and damage to the upper part of the fuel filter.
t  Please ensure that no diesel contacts other components in the engine compartment. If necessary clean immediately.

–  Unscrew all bolts -arrows- for upper part of fuel filter and remove upper part of fuel filter.

If upper part of fuel filter is tight or seized, loosen upper part of fuel filter as follows:
Upper part of fuel filter can be raised using a special wrench, long reach -VAS 6543- in assembly groove -arrow A-.
t  The size of the assembly groove can vary depending on version of upper part.
–  Insert the respective side of the Allen wrench -VAS 6543- in the assembly groove -Arrow A- and turn the screwdriver -VAS 6543-.

This action raises the upper part of the fuel filter.

–  Remove seal -2- from upper part of fuel filter -1- by prising seal out of respective groove -arrow-.

Installation
–  Moisten new seal -1- with diesel and insert seal into upper part of fuel filter -arrows-.
–  Insert upper part of fuel filter with seal correctly onto lower part of fuel filter and press on evenly until the upper part of fuel filter seats completely.
  Caution
Do NOT tighten the bolts for the upper part of the fuel filter until it lies completely on the lower part.

–  Insert all bolts into lower part of fuel filter and tighten hand-tight.
–  Then tighten bolts to specified torque in sequence according to illustration -arrows- → Item.
