t  Auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594 C-

t  Jointed wrench, 10 mm -3220-
t  Voltage tester -V.A.G 1527-
Test prerequisites
l  The battery voltage must be at least 11.5 V.
l  All electrical consumers, e.g. lights and rear window heating, must be switched off.
l  Diesel direct injection system control unit -J248- is OK.
l  Fuse for glow plugs OK.: → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
Test procedure
–  Remove engine cover.
–  Pull glow plug connectors off glow plugs.

–  Connect voltage tester wire to battery positive (+) using clamps from auxiliary measuring set.
–  Place test probe of voltage tester on each glow plug one after the other. If diode lights up, glow plug is OK. If diode does not light up, replace glow plug.
–  Remove and install glow plugs with U/J extension and socket, 10 mm -3220-. Specified torque: 15 Nm.
