Checking compression
Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter.
Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Extension and socket -3220-, see equivalent → Anchor
  W00-0329
t  Compression gauge -VAG 1763- with Adaptor -V.A.G 1763/8-
t  Torque wrench -VAG 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor.
Test condition
l  Engine oil temperature: approx 80 ℃.
l  Battery voltage min. 12.5 V
  W00-0563
Checking sequence
–  Loosen the engine cover at the locations -arrows- and remove.
  E10-10087
–  Detach electrical connectors on the fuel pressure regulating valve -N276--arrow- on fuel rail.
  Caution
Make sure that no wiring connections are damaged when disconnecting the connectors. Otherwise the whole wiring harness will need to be renewed. Do not press the pliers -3314- too firmly together to separate the connectors, otherwise the support sleeve may be damaged.
–  To dissipate fuel pressure in fuel rail start the engine briefly.
–  Remove glow plug from relevant cylinder using U/J extension and 10 mm socket -3220- → Chapter.
  A23-10578
–  Screw in adapter -V.A.G 1763/8- in place of the glow plugs and connect compression tester -V.A.G 1763-.
  Note
Use of the testing equipment → Instructions.
–  Have a second mechanic operate starter until tester shows no further pressure increase.

Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:
–  Install glow plug using U/J extension and 10 mm socket -3220- → Chapter.
–  Read out the event memory of the engine control unit on the → vehicle diagnostic tester .
  Note
By detaching the injector connectors error entries are registered in the event memory. The event memory must therefore be interrogated and existing entries deleted if necessary.
