Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Guide sleeve -10 203-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Extractor -3240-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Torque wrench -VAG 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor.
t  Torque wrench -VAG 1332-, see equivalent → Anchor.
t  Bolt M12×65

Removing
–  Remove toothed belt from camshaft and high-pressure pump → Chapter.
–  Remove camshaft sprocket and hub → Chapter.
   
–  Fit the extractor -3240/1- in the camshaft.
–  Lock the inner element of the seal extractor -3240- two full turns (approx. 3 mm) and immobilise it with the knurled bolt.

–  Lubricate threaded head of oil seal extractor, place it in position and, exerting firm pressure, screw it into oil seal as far as possible.
–  Loosen the knurled bolt, and turn the inner element against the camshaft until the seal is removed.
Installing
  Note
Do not additionally lubricate or grease sealing lip of oil seal.
–  Remove the remains of any oil from the camshaft pivot using a clean cloth.

–  Place the guide support of the guide sleeve -10 203- on the pinion gear of the camshaft, as shown in the figure.
–  Carefully push the oil ring -1- over the guide sleeve onto the camshaft.

–  Press the sealing ring in until the end using the pressure piece of the guide sleeve -10 203- and the bolt M12 x 65 or M12 x 1.5 x 75.
–  Install camshaft sprocket and hub → Chapter.
–  Install notched belt (adjust valve timing) → Anchor.
