Removing and installing charge air cooler
Removing and installing charge air cooler

Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Torque wrench -VAG 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor.

t  Pliers for spring-loaded band-type clamps -VAS 6499-, see equivalent → Anchor
Removing
–  Drain coolant → Chapter

–  Remove connecting hose on »hot side« from charge air pipe. To do this, detach hose clips -1-.
  Note
t  Cove the charged air cooler and the hose with a clean cloth to prevent water entering.
t  After removing coolant or fuel lines, these must be sealed using the engine sealing plug set -VAS 6122- to prevent dirt from entering or coolant or fuel from running out.

–  Loosen the spring-type hose clip -arrow- and remove the bottom hose from the radiator.

–  Unplug electrical connection -1- from the radiator fan -V7-.
  Note
Disregard item -2-.

–  Loosen the angled bracket -arrow- and remove the right hose from the charged air cooler.

–  Loosen the spring-type hose clips -arrows- and remove the top hoses from the radiator.
–  Place the lock carrier plate into service position → Bodywork, exterior fitting work; Rep. gr.50

–  Unscrew the bolts -1- that fasten the radiator to the lock carrier plate.

–  Press the upper locking elements -1- on both sides to remove the air duct from the radiator. Take the duct out upwards -arrow-.
–  Remove air vent downwards.

–  Lift the assembly comprising condenser and supercharger, remove the existing sleeves in the lock carrier plate -1- and slide in the -direction of the arrow-.
–  Swing charge air cooler backwards slightly.

–  Remove securing bolts -2- of condenser.

–  Unscrew the condenser bracket bolt -arrow-.
  Note
To prevent damage to condenser or to refrigerant lines/hoses, ensure that the lines and hoses are not stretched, kinked or bent.
–  Separate the condenser and place on the lock carrier.
–  Remove the supercharge together with the charged radiator to the bottom.

–  Separate the charge air cooler -3- from the cooler -2-, lifting carefully in the process.
  Note
Disregard item -1-.
Fitting
–  Mount the unit of the coolant radiator and supercharger from underneath.
–  Insert both centring pins of the charged air cooler in their mountings on the lock carrier.
Install in reverse order to dismantling, noting the following:
  Note
t  Hose connections and air pipes and hoses must be free of oil and grease before assembly.
t  Secure all hose connections with the correct type of hose clips (same as original equipment) → Parts catalogue.
t  To ensure that the air hoses can be properly secured at their connections, spray rust remover onto the worm thread of used hose clips before installing.
–  Fit the lock carrier assembly: → Bodywork, exterior fitting work; Rep. gr.50 .
–  Fill with coolant → Chapter.
