t  Spring-type clip pliers -VAS 5024 A-
t  Sealant -AMV 174 004 01-
Removing
–  Observe rules for cleanliness → Chapter.
–  Remove engine cover.
–  Remove toothed belt guard upper part.
–  Remove exhaust gas recirculation cooler → Chapter.
–  Disconnect crankcase breather hose from union of intake manifold.
–  Remove intake manifold together with intake manifold flap motor -V157- and exhaust gas recirculation valve -N18- → Chapter.
–  Disconnect vacuum hose from cylinder head cover.
–  Remove cylinder head cover.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse sequence of removal. In the process, note the following:
  WARNING
When doing any repair work, especially in the engine compartment, pay attention to the following due to the cramped conditions:
t  Route all the various lines (e.g. for fuel, hydraulics, activated charcoal filter system, coolant, refrigerant, brake fluid and vacuum) and electrical wiring in their original positions.
t  Ensure that there is sufficient clearance to all moving or hot components.
  Note
t  Renew cylinder head cover if damaged or leaking.
t  Renew cylinder head cover gasket and bolt seal if damaged or leaking.
–  Clean sealing surfaces. They must be free of oil and grease.

–  Place a drop of sealant -AMV 174 004 01- (Ø approx. 5 mm) -arrows- on edges of both sealing surfaces of bearing cap and cylinder head at front of engine.

–  Place a drop of sealant -AMV 174 004 01- (Ø approx. 5 mm) -arrows- on edges of both sealing surfaces of bearing cap and cylinder head at rear of engine.
  Note
t  Observe expiry date of sealing compound.
t  Cylinder head cover must be installed within 5 minutes of applying sealant.
  A15-0521
–  Fit cylinder head cover immediately and tighten all securing bolts hand tight in sequence as illustrated.
–  Tighten securing bolts in illustrated sequence. Torque setting: 10 Nm.
Further assembly is basically the reverse of the dismantling procedure.
