Cylinder head, camshaft: assembly overview

t  Seal contact surfaces of bearing caps 1 and 5 → Fig.
t  Valve dimensions, → Fig.
t  Identification of the camshaft distribution timing → Fig.
t  Distribution time for 1 mm run of the valve → Anchor
   
1 - 20 Nm + 90° (1/4 turn)
q   8x
q   replace
q   Respect the loosening and tightening sequence → Chapter
2 - Rocker axle
q   2x
q   Do not mix them up
3 - Cylinder head bolt
q   10 pieces
q   replace
q   Respect the loosening and tightening sequence → Chapter
q   Prior to installation, insert washers → Item in cylinder head
4 - Washer
q   For cylinder head bolts
q   Before fitting the bearing caps, fit them in the cylinder head
5 - Hydraulic followers:
q   Do not mix them up
q   With hydraulic valve clearance compensation.
q   Set down with cam bearing surface facing downwards.
q   Oil contact surface
q   Before separation, extract the half bearings from the camshaft
6 - Woodruff keys
7 - Valve plate spring
8 - Exterior valve spring
q   Removing and fitting: with cylinder head removed using the pressure tool -T20034/1-, with cylinder head installed → Chapter
9 - Interior valve spring
q   Removing and fitting: with cylinder head removed using the pressure tool -T20034/1-, with cylinder head installed → Chapter
10 - Valve stem seal
q   Renew → Chapter
11 - Valve guide
q   check → Chapter
q   If the wear limit is still exceeded, replace the cylinder head
12 - Injector-pump:
q   removing and fitting → Chapter
13 - Cylinder head
q   Note the identification → Chapter
14 - Seal
q   Do not grease or oil the seal lip of the seal
q   Before fitting, clean the remains of oil on the crankshaft journal using a clean cloth.
q   For fitting, cover the camshaft cone groove (for ex. With cellophane)
q   removing and fitting → Chapter
15 - Valves:
q   Valve dimensions, → Fig.
16 - Half-bearing
q   Do not interchange used bearing shells (mark).
q   Ensure the correct seating in the allotment
17 - Camshaft:
q   removing and fitting → Chapter
q   Check the radial play using a Plastigage:
q   Wear limit: 0.11 mm
q   out-of-true: max. 0.04 mm
q   Identification and distribution time → Fig.
18 - Bearing caps
q   Fitting order → Chapter
q   Seal contact surfaces of bearing caps 1 and 5 → Parts Catalogue → Fig.
19 - 8 Nm + 90° (1/4 turn)
q   10 pieces
q   replace

Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Socket -T20020-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Dial gauge
–  Carry out the measurement of the cup cam followers removed and with the second, third and last bearing caps fitted.
Wear limit: max. 0.15 mm
  W00-2300
Seal contact surfaces of bearing caps 1 and 5
–  Apply sealant → Parts Catalogue uniformly and thinly over the surfaces -1-.
  Note
Ensure that the sealant does not enter in the grooves -arrows-.

The valves can not be reworked. Only lapping-in is permitted.

Identification of the camshaft distribution timing
Identification
t  Base diameter of the cams: a = Ø 52.8 mm
t  Identification using numbers and letters stamped on the frontal surface of the cam for the exhaust valve on the fourth cylinder.
