Removing
–  Note safety precautions before starting work → Chapter
Observe rules for cleanliness → Chapter.
  Note
When working on the airbag system, the battery earth strap must be removed. To this end, it is necessary to check whether the vehicle has a coded radio. If so, refer to the anti-theft coding.
–  With the ignition switched off, disconnect battery earth strap.
–  Fold rear seat bench forwards.
–  Remove cover from fuel delivery unit.
–  Remove connector from the flange.
–  Empty the fuel tank
–  Remove the rear axle: → Running gear, shafts, steering, front-wheel drive and 4WD; Rep. Gr.42.
–  Remove the rear right-hand side wheel housing moulding: → Bodywork, exterior fitting work; Rep. Gr.66

–  Disconnect the fuel supply -1- and return -2- tubes in the front right of the tank.
  Note
To do this, press on the connection buttons for the hoses.
–  Remove the rear silencer.
–  Remove the left hand side thermal protection plate.

–  Extract the bolts from the filler neck -arrows-.
–  Support the fuel tank with the hydraulic jack -SAT 1040-.

–  Extract the attachment bolts for the fuel tank -arrows-.
–  Extract the fuel filler neck from the rubber seal on the fuel tank cover and lower the fuel tank.
Installing
Install in reverse order to dismantling, noting the following:
–  Breather and fuel hoses are to be installed kink-free.
–  Ensure fuel hoses are seated securely.
–  Do not mix up the feed and return tubes (Return tube blue or with blue marking, feed tube black).
–  Conceal the fuel lines on the fuel tank.
  Note
After installing fuel gauge sender, check that the supply, return and breather pipes are still clipped onto the fuel tank.
