Detaching toothed belt
–  Disconnect activated charcoal reservoir solenoid valve 1 -N80--1- from air duct.
–  Remove bolts -arrows-.
–  Remove air duct -2-.
  A10-0900
–  Turn quick-release coupling -item 1- 90° anti-clockwise.
–  Lift retaining tabs -arrows- and take the upper notched belt guard off.
  Caution
The engine must only be rotated by turning the crankshaft in the normal rotation direction (clockwise).
  A13-0644
–  Rotate the crankshaft using the centre bolt of the notched belt pinion in the engine normal direction of rotation until the TDC of the cylinder. 1 -arrows-.
  A13-0154
–  At the same time the marking on front of the camshaft sprocket must align with the marking on the rear toothed belt cover -arrows-. If necessary, turn crankshaft one turn further.
  A13-0691
–  Loosen nut -arrow- for tensioning roller several turns.
–  Take notched belt off camshaft sprocket.
  A13-0504
Installing
  Note
When turning camshaft, none of the crankshaft cylinders should be at TDC, Risk of piston valves / head fault.
–  Align marking on camshaft pinion with the marking on the notched belt guard -arrows-.
  A13-0691
–  Check crankshaft is positioned at TDC No. 1 cylinder once more -arrow-.
  A13-0154
–  Fit toothed belt onto coolant pump, then tensioning roller, and finally camshaft sprocket.
–  Observe installation position of semi-automatic tensioning roller:
l  The retaining hook -arrow- must engage in the cylinder head groove.
  A13-0078
–  Turn tensioning roller on cam with turning tool -T10020- to stop in direction of -arrow-.
–  Release tensioning roller until the pointer -2- stands approx. 10 mm under the notch -1-.
–  Turn tensioning roller again with cam to stop in direction of -arrow-.
–  Release tensioning roller until the pointer -2- stands approx. 10 mm under the notch -1-.
–  Now tense the tensioning roller until the notch -1- and the pointer -2- align.
  Note
Check the position of notch and pointer on tensioning roller using a mirror.
  N13-0402
–  Tighten securing nut -arrow-.
–  Turn crankshaft at central bolt on toothed belt sprocket two revolutions in direction of engine rotation and check whether camshaft and crankshaft markings align at TDC with their respective reference points.
–  Check tension of toothed belt again, readjust, if necessary.
–  Install top section of toothed belt cover (make sure it engages securely on centre section of toothed belt cover).
