Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Torque wrench -VAG 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor.

Removing
  W00-0428
–  Disconnect activated charcoal reservoir solenoid valve 1 -N80--1- from air duct.
–  Remove bolts -arrows-.
–  Remove air duct -2-.

Before removing the Poly-V belt, mark the direction of rotation using chalk or a marker. If the belt runs in the opposite direction when it is refitted, this can cause breakage.
–  Release tensions on poly V belt by turning tensioning element in direction indicated by -Arrow-.
–  Take off poly V-belt.
–  Remove pulley from crankshaft.
  Note
To loosen and tighten the crankshaft pulley, lock with ring spanner on centre bolt.

Installing
–  Reassembly is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:

Fitting can only be completed in one position only: The borehole -arrow- in the pulley must be positioned above the raised section of the toothed belt sprocket.
