Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability between Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Remote control -VAG 1348/3A- with adapter wire -VAG 1348/3-2-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Manual multimeter -VAG 1526C-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Auxiliary cable kit -VAG 1594C-, see equivalent → Anchor

Operation process
l  Battery voltage min. 12.5 V
l  Fuse in fuse holder -S228- (position 28) OK.
   
l  Fuel pump relay -J17--arrow- OK (located at plug-in position No. 1 in nine-way relay carrier behind storage compartment on driver's side).
l  Fuel filter OK.
l  Ignition switched off

–  Open fuse box cover on left-hand side of instrument panel.
–  Take out fuse in fuse holder -S228- (left row, 5th large fuse from the top).
–  Connect remote control -VAG 1348/3A-to right terminal in socket for fuse in fuse holder -VAG 1348/3-2- using adapter line -S228-
–  Connect crocodile clip to vehicle battery (+).
–  Press remote control switch.
l  Pump should start running audibly.
  Note
The fuel pump is very quiet. When testing the fuel pump ensure surrounds are quiet.
If you do not hear the pump functioning:
–  Remove luggage compartment floor lining.

–  If necessary, fold forward right backrest of rear seat bench.
–  Loosen the bolts -arrows- and remove the fuel delivery unit.

–  Extract the connector -arrow- from the fuel delivery unit.
  A20-0782
–  Connect hand-held multimeter -VAG 1526C- between contacts -1- and -4- to measure voltage.
–  Press remote control switch.
l  Specification: approx. battery voltage.
If specification is not obtained:
–  Use current flow diagram to eliminate open circuit in wiring.

If reading matches specification although no pump running noise can be heard:
–  Remove fuel delivery unit → Chapter.
–  Check that the electrical wires between the flange and the fuel pump are coupled and that current circulates.
If no fault is found in wiring, fuel pump is defective. Renew fuel delivery unit.
–  Install fuel delivery unit → Chapter.
