Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Fuel drainage equipment -VAS 5190-, see equivalent → Anchor
Procedure
Observe safety precautions → Chapter.
Observe rules for cleanliness → Chapter.
  Caution
Secure earth wire of fuel extractor -VAS 5190- to a bare metal part of the body.

–  Remove cotter -2- from shaft -1- of fuel extractor -VAS 5190-.
–  Use insulating tape to mark the extraction hose -arrow- at a distance of -a- = 1,370 mm from the end of the hose.

–  Remove filler cap from fuel tank filler neck.
–  Screw shaft end -1- of fuel extractor unit -VAS 5190- onto fuel filler neck.
–  Insert the suction hose up until the mark made previously -arrow- is at the level of the rod.

t  If you use a purge unit without rod, proceed in the same way.
t  In this case, stick on the flexible hose a piece of electrical tape as a mark -arrow- at a distance -of-1,305 mm with respect to the end of the hose. The purge hose will be correctly introduced when the previous mark stays at the same level of the edge of the fill neck.
t  If the hose is hard to introduce, apply a fine layer of engine oil. DO NOT use silicone-based lubricant.
–  Via the fill neck, empty the fuel tank as much as possible.
–  Carefully remove the purge hose.
–  Remove fuel delivery unit → Chapter.
–  Purge the fuel from the chamber directly from the tank via the opening for the fuel supply unit.
–  Introduce the hose in the left chamber of the fuel tank and purge the remaining fuel that is found there.
