Safety precautions
Please note the following if test equipment has to be used during a test drive:
  WARNING
t  The testing and measurement equipment must always be fitted to the rear seat and from there be operated by a second person.
t  If test equipment is operated from the front passenger's seat, the occupant could suffer injury in the event of an accident if the front passenger's airbag is triggered.
To prevent injuries to persons and/or damage to the fuel injection and ignition system, the following must be noted:
t  The ignition must be switched off before connecting or disconnecting injection or ignition system wiring or tester cables.
t  In some tests the control unit may detect and store an error. The event memory should therefore be interrogated and (if necessary) erased after completing the tests and any repair work that may be required. Then generate readiness code.
t  Always switch off ignition before cleaning engine.
t  Only disconnect and connect the battery with the ignition switched off, otherwise the engine control unit may be damaged.

t  If you want to crank the engine at starting speed without actually starting it (e.g. compression test), first unplug the connectors from the ignition coils and the injectors. In addition, remove the fuse No. 28 of the control unit for fuel pump -J538-.
  Note
Removing fuse 28 will interrupt the voltage supply for the fuel pump control unit -J538-.
  WARNING
The fuel system is pressurised. The pressure in the high-pressure part of the injection system must be reduced to a residual pressure prior to opening the system → Chapter. A rag must then be wrapped around the joint and the residual pressure dissipated by carefully slackening the joint.
