Checking compression

Checking compression
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Spark plug spanner -3122 B-
t  Torque wrenches -V.A.G 1331-
t  Compression tester -V.A.G 1763-
t  Puller -T10094 A-

Test prerequisite
l  Engine oil temperature must be at least 30 °C.
Operation process
–  Remove engine cover.
–  Remove ignition coils. Use puller -T10094 A- for this purpose.
–  Unscrew spark plugs with spark plug socket and extension -3122 B- → Chapter.
–  Remove fuse for fuel pump control unit voltage supply from fuse holder beneath left dash panel → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.
  Note
Removing fuse interrupts voltage supply for fuel pump control unit.
–  Check compression using compression tester -V.A.G 1763-.
  Note
See relevant test unit operating instructions for instructions on how to use test unit.
–  Operate starter until tester shows no further pressure increase.
Compression pressures:
New: 10…15 bar.
Wear limit: 7 bar.
Maximum permissible difference between all cylinders: 3 bar
–  Insert spark plugs using spark plug socket and extension -3122 B- and tighten to 30 Nm.
Further assembly is basically the reverse of the dismantling sequence.
–  Read fault memory, rectify any faults and then erase fault memory → Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051„Guided fault finding“.
If the fault memory has been erased, you must generate the readiness code again.
