Fitting
Positioning is done in the reverse order of the separation operations, observing the following:
  Caution
When performing any fitting work, especially in the engine compartment, pay attention to the following due to the cramped conditions:
t  All the various lines (e.g. fuel, hydraulic system, active carbon filter system, coolant, refrigerant, brake fluid and vacuum pipes and hoses) and electrical wiring must be installed in their original positions.
t  To prevent damaging the hoses, ensure that all mobile or hot components are easily accessible.
–  Check wear to the clutch release bearing and replace if necessary.
–  Secure all hose connections with standard hose clips → Parts catalogue.
–  Lubricate clutch release bearing, guide sleeve for release bearing and splines of input shaft with grease -G 000 100-.
–  Check whether the dowel sleeves for centring engine/gearbox are in the cylinder block, install if necessary.
   
–  Fit the intermediate plate onto the sealing flange and slide onto the dowel sleeves-arrows-.
–  Bolt the gearbox to the engine.
–  On inserting the drive train, make sure there is enough space in relation to the half-shafts.

–  Fit the drive train and the drive train assembly mountings and tighten the bolts -arrows- to the torque value → Chapter.

–  Mount the half-shafts: → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. Gr.40.

–  Tighten the bolts -arrows- on the pendular mounting.
–  Fit the front exhaust tube with catalytic converter → Chapter.
Vehicles with air conditioning
–  Fit the air conditioning compressor.
All vehicles (continued)
–  Fit the Poly-V belt → Chapter.
–  Electrical connections and routing: → Electrical system; Rep. Gr.97.
–  Fit the clutch command cylinder: → 02T 5-speed manual gearbox; Rep. Gr.30.
–  Fit the gear selector mechanism: → 02T 5-speed manual gearbox; Rep. Gr.34.
–  Fill up with coolant → Chapter.
  Note
t  Used coolant already removed can only be reused if the cylinder head or the engine block have not been replaced.
t  Coolant must not be used again if it is dirty.
–  Fit the battery → Electrical system; Rep. Gr.27.
  Note
On reconnecting battery, remember to enable the vehicle equipment (radio/radio navigation system, clock, electric window lifters) in line with the Instructions Manual.
–  Fit the lock carrier plate: → Bodywork, exterior fitting work; Rep. Gr.50 .
–  Check the oil level → Chapter.
–  Perform a test drive and interrogate fault memory: → Central diagnosisVAS 5051B; Vehicle self-diagnosis.
