Fitting
  Note!
t  Always replace the attachment bolts for the cylinder head.
t  If repaired, carefully remove gasket remains from cylinder block and cylinder head. Avoid making scratches or grooves. When using sandpaper, use a grain larger than 100.
t  Carefully remove all traces of abrasive particles.
t  Only remove the new cylinder head gasket from its packing immediately before installing.
t  Handle the new gasket with extreme care. If the layer of silicone and the grooved area are damaged there is a possibility of leakage.
Before attaching the cylinder head, put the crankshaft into the TDC position, then turn it in the opposite direction to the engine rotation until the pistons are at the half way point and will not interfere with the valves.

–  To centre correctly the gasket and the cylinder head, use the -T20049- tool and the guide pins screwed into the holes as shown in the diagram.
–  Fit a new cylinder head gasket.
–  Fit the gasket onto the guide pins correctly and then screw in by hand, the new cylinder head attachment bolts into the eight remaining holes.
–  Unscrew the guide pins using the tool -T20049- and remove them.
–  Fit the remaining two new attachment bolts
With the engine cold.

–  Tighten the cylinder head in four stages using the following tightening sequence:
1 - Initial tightening with the torque wrench:
 - I pass  = 40 Nm
 - II pass = 60 Nm
2 - Retighten using a fixed wrench:
 - III pass = 1/4 turn (90°)
 - IV pass = 1/4 turn (90°)
–  Fit the wheel to the camshaft → Chapter.
–  After fitting the cylinder head, turn the camshaft wheel so that the cylinder 1 cams all face uniformly upwards.
–  Before fitting the notched belt, turn the crankshaft in the engine rotation direction until it is in the TDC position.
  Note!
It is not necessary to tighten the cylinder head bolts after repairs.
For fitting, the operations are carried out in reverse order, taking the following into account:
–  Fit the notched belt → Chapter.
–  Charge the coolant → Chapter.
–  Carry out a test drive and interrogate fault memory: → VAS 5051; Vehicle self-diagnosis.
