  Note!
t  When installing an exchange cylinder head with camshaft installed, all the contact surfaces between the plungers and the cams must be oiled before installing the cylinder head cover.
t  The plastic packing pieces for protecting open valves must not be removed until immediately before fitting the cylinder head.
t  If the cylinder head is replaced, all the coolant in the system must also be renewed.
t  The cylinder heads must not be reworked in diesel engines
Checking compression → Chapter.
   
1 - Cylinder head gasket
q   Renew
q   Note identification → Fig.
q   If replaced, renew all the coolant
2 - 20 Nm
3 - Cylinder head
q   Check for distortion → Fig.
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   If replaced, renew all the coolant
4 - Lifting eye
5 - 8 Nm
q   For the engine casing
6 - Cylinder head bolt
q   Renew
q   Note the loosening and tightening sequence → Chapter, cylinder head: removing and installing
7 - Oil deflector
8 - Cylinder head cover
q   With vulcanised gasket
9 - Sealing sleeve
q   Renew if damaged
10 - Cap
q   Renew seal if damaged
11 - Vent tube
12 - Clip
13 - Pressure regulator valve
q   To ventilate engine block
14 - Gasket
q   Renew if damaged
15 - 10 Nm
16 - Injection hoses
q   Tighten to 25 Nm
q   Remove with spanner -U-40072-
q   Always remove the complete set of hoses
q   Do not change the bends
17 - Support
q   For the engine casing
18 - 20 Nm
19 - Vacuum pump
q   For break servo amplifier
20 - 20 Nm
21 - Gasket
q   Renew

t  Straight edge
t  Feeler gauge
Checking process
Max. permissible distortion: 0.1 mm
  Note!
Diesel cylinder heads cannot be ground.

Identification of the cylinder head gasket
t  Spare part number = arrow -1-
t  Administration code = arrow -2- (not relevant!)
t  Holes = arrow -3-
  Note!
Different thickness cylinder head gaskets will be used depending on the degree of projection of the pistons. When replacing the gasket, do so with one of the same type.
