Rules for cleanliness
When working on the fuel supply/injection system the following “6 rules of cleanliness” must be observed:
t  Thoroughly clean all unions and the adjacent areas before disconnecting.
t  Place parts that have been removed on a clean surface and cover them. Use lint-free cloths!
t  If repairs cannot be completed in one session, all parts and components that are left open should be covered or stored with the greatest of care.
t  Only install clean components: Only unpack replacement parts immediately prior to installation. Do not use parts that have been stored loose (e.g. in tool boxes etc.).
t  When the system is open: Do not work with compressed air if this can be avoided. Do not move vehicle unless absolutely necessary.
t  Furthermore, check that no diesel leaks onto the coolant hose pipes. If necessary, immediately clean the hose pipes. The affected hose pipes should be replaced.
