Test process
–  Connect the -V.A.G 1551- (V.A.G. 1552) and, via the corresponding “address code” 01, select the engine electronics control unit. When doing so the ignition must be on: → Rep. Gr.01

The display reads:
–  Press 0 and 8 for the function “Read measurement value block” and press Q to confirm the entry.

Rapid data transmission HELP
Select function XX
The display reads:
–  Press 0, 6 and 2 for “Display group number 62” and press Q to confirm the entry.

Read measurement value block
Enter display group number XXX
The display reads: (1...4 = display fields)
–  Check the target value for sender 1 -G79- at idling limit in display field 3. Target value: 12...97 %
–  Check the target value for sender 2 -G185- at idling limit in display field 4. Target value: 4...49 %
  Note!
The engine control unit converts the angle sender voltage values expressed in percentages corresponding to 5 volts and shows the percentages. (5 volts of voltage supply correspond to 100 %.)
–  Slowly depress the accelerator pedal to full gas, watching the percentages displayed in displays fields 3 and 4:
The percentage in display field 3 should rise steadily. Not the whole tolerance range of 12...97 % is used.
The percentage in display field 4 should rise steadily. Not the whole tolerance range of 4...49 % is used.
  Note!
The value in display field 3 should always be more or less double the value in display field 4.
If the final target value is not reached:
–  Press .
–  Press 0 and 6 for the function “End data transmission” and press Q to confirm the entry.
–  Switch off the ignition.
–  Adjust the accelerator pedal position sender → Chapter.
If the display does not change or only changes irregularly:
–  Test the accelerator pedal position sender as follows:
–  Press .
–  Press 0 and 6 for the function “End data transmission” and press Q to confirm the entry.
–  Remove the lining under the steering column:
–  Remove the lining under the steering column: → Bodywork - fitting work; Rep. Gr.68

Read measurement value block 62 ->
1 2 3 4
–  Detach the connector -1- for the accelerator pedal position sender.
  N23-0088
–  Measure the resistance of the sender -G79- between connector contacts 1 + 3 Target value: Accelerator at idling position: 1.0...1.5 kΩ Accelerator at full gas position: 1.5...2.5 kΩ
–  Measure the resistance of the sender -G185- between connector contacts 4 + 6 Target value: Accelerator at idling position: 1.0...1.5 kΩ Accelerator at full gas position: 1.5...2.5 kΩ
If the target values are not reached:
–  Replace the accelerator position sender -G79- und -G185- → Item
If the target values are reached:
  N23-0018
–  Connect test box -V.A.G 1598/22- to the control unit wiring harness.
  N24-0709
–  Test for open circuits in the wiring between the test box and the 6-pin connector (connector to the control unit) following the wiring diagram. Contact 1 + female contact 33 Contact 2 + female contact 8 Contact 3 + female contact 7 Contact 4 + female contact 19 Contact 5 + female contact 6 Contact 6 + female contact 45 Wiring resistance: max. 1.5 Ω
–  Also test the wire for short circuits between wires, to vehicle earth and to battery positive. Target value: ∞ Ω
If no fault is found in the wiring:
–  Replace the engine control unit: → Rep. Gr.24
