Fuel tank: removing and fitting|Fit > < Fuel tank: removing and fitting
Remove
Remove
–  Check the safety instructions before starting the fitting work → Chapter.
–  First, check whether the vehicle has a coded radio and, if so, check the anti-theft code.
–  With the ignition off, disconnect the battery earth strap.
Commercial vehicles
–  Partially lift the front part of the cargo compartment floor carpet.
   
–  Remove the lower panels -1- from the dividing wall.
–  Remove the front linings -2-.
–  Remove the floor protective plates -3-.
–  Remove the reinforcement beam.
Kombi
–  Fold the rear seat forward.
Continue for all vehicles
–  Remove the cover from the fuel supply unit.

–  Unplug the connector -1-.
–  Remove the fuel supply and return lines -2- and -3- to the fuel distributor.
–  Detach the deaeration hose -5-.
  Caution
The fuel supply line is under pressure. Before loosening the hose connections, place a cloth around the connection. Then eliminate the pressure by carefully removing the hose.
–  Close the fuel tank.

–  Detach the union brace -1- from the body.
–  Remove all the rear exhaust system fastenings from the body. Then, lower the exhaust system slightly, suspending it from the body.
–  Remove the rear right wheel.
–  Clean around the fuel filler hole.
–  Remove the fuel filler cap and remove the mouth of the dust protector.
–  Detach the filler hole from the body.
–  Remove the fuel tank bolts and fixing strap, holding the tank with engine/gearbox lift -SAT 1001A-.

–  Remove the fuel filler hole from its fastening to the fuel tank, for which you must remove the dust protector and fuel lines.
  Note!
When detaching the filler hole be very careful not to damage the inner seals on the tank.
–  Remove the fuel tank along with the heat shield.
