Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Manual multimeter -V.A.G 1526 C-, see equivalent → Anchor

t  Auxiliary cable kit -VAG 1594C-, see equivalent → Anchor
Test prerequisites
l  Battery voltage at least 11.5 V
l  Ignition off
l  Control unit for the direct diesel injection system -J248-, correct
l  Fuse -3- in the fusebox / battery -SA3-, correct
Checking sequence
–  Extract the connector from the coolant temperature sender -G62-.
  Note
By removing this connector, a „cold engine“ is simulated. When the ignition is turned on, a corresponding heating cycle will be completed.
–  Unplug connectors from glow plugs.
–  Fit the multimeter in voltage measurement mode between the glow plug connector and the vehicle earth.
–  Turn on the ignition. The approximate battery voltage must be displayed for about 20 seconds.
–  If no voltage is present: → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.
