Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Extension and socket -3220-, see equivalent → Anchor
  W00-0329
t  Compression pressure gauge -V.A.G 1763- with Adaptor -V.A.G 1763/8-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Torque wrench (5…50 Nm) -V.A.G 1331-
Test condition
l  Engine oil temperature at least. 30 ℃
Checking sequence
–  Remove glow plug from relevant cylinder using socket -3220- → Chapter.
–  Screw in adapter -V.A.G 1763/8- in place of glow plug.
–  Check compression using compression tester -V.A.G 1763-.
  Note
Using the compression tester ⇒ Operating instructions
–  Turn over engine until tester shows no further pressure increase.
Compression values:
New: 25 - 31 bar
Wear limit: 19 bar
Max. deviation allowed between both cylinders: 5 bar.
–  Install glow plug using socket -3220- → Chapter.
–  Interrogate the fault memory of the engine control unit → Chapter
  Note
Faults will have been stored because the connectors for injectors have been disconnected. For this, check the fault memory and, if necessary, clear it.
