t  Locking tool -T10255-
Procedure
  Caution
If the idler gear bolt was loosened or the driving toothed wheel on the crankshaft is replaced or the crankshaft is removed, a new toothed wheel with a coating and a hub → Item must be installed, including bolts → Item and thrust washers have to be renewed. Otherwise, the tooth backlash will be incorrect. Procedure when installing → Chapter.

–  Lock balancer shaft with locking tool -T10255-; if necessary, turn balancer shaft.
l  Locking tool pin must engage in groove in balancer shaft when doing this.
–  Insert dowel sleeves if no dowel sleeves for centring balancer shaft module are fitted on cylinder block.
–  Place balancer shaft module on cylinder block.
l  The intermediate gear wheel must mesh in the crankshaft spur gear when the balancer shaft is locked.
l  The intermediate gear wheel must have a slight tooth backlash.
–  Tighten bolts for balancer shaft module:
   Balancer shaft module with 8 threaded connection points → Fig.
   Balancer shaft module with 6 threaded connection points → Fig.
–  Remove crankshaft stop -T10050-.
Remaining installation steps are carried out in reverse sequence; note the following:
–  Install sump → Chapter.
–  Install vibration damper → Chapter.
