Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Pressure gauge -VAS 6550-, see equivalent → Anchor

t  Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051B-, see equivalent → Anchor
Test prerequisite:
l  Fuses must be OK.
l  Battery voltage at least 12 V
l  All electrical consumers, e.g. lights and rear window heating, must be switched off.

–  Unplug connector -3- at supplementary fuel pump -V393-.

–  Remove the quick connector -A- (black or with black markings) from the fuel supply line.
–  Connect the pipe -VAS 6550/1- of the test and measuring instrument to the fuel supply line -A-.
–  Guide the open end of the line into a measuring container.
–  Connect diagnosis tester and perform the guided function „Checking electric fuel pump(s)“.
  Note
The fuel pump is now activated for 30 seconds.
–  As soon as the fuel flows, read-off the fuel quantity supplied on the measuring container. Specification: min. 1000 ml/30 seconds
If the specification is not attained:
–  Check the fuel line between the pump and the engine compartment for bends, crushing and for damage.
–  If a defect is established, replace the line and repeat the test.
–  If no bends, crushing or damage are determined, remove the rear right seat → Bodywork, interior assembly work; Rep. gr.72.
–  Release the floor covering under the seats, lift and fold over → Bodywork - interior fitting work; Rep. gr.70
–  Remove cover of fuel delivery unit.
  Note
Press in safety ring to release fuel lines.

–  Remove the fuel supply unit (black or with black markings) -A- from the fuel supply unit.
–  Connect the pipe -VAS 6550/1- of the test and measuring instrument to the fuel supply line -A-.
–  Guide the open end of the line into a measuring container.
–  Connect diagnosis tester and perform the guided function „Checking electric fuel pump(s)“.

The fuel pump is now activated for 30 seconds.

If the specification is not attained:
–  Check the power supply and → Chapterthe power consumption → Chapterof the fuel pump.
