Removing and installing thermostat Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter. Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Base -T20174-, see equivalent → Anchor

t  Torque wrench (5... 50 Nm) -V.A.G 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor Coolant thermostat: Removing → Anchor Coolant thermostat: Fitting → Anchor

Removing –  Drain coolant → Chapter. –  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter.

–  Remove battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.

–  Remove coolant hoses -arrows- from thermostat housing.

–  Unscrew bolts -arrows- and remove corresponding connection. –  Detach spring, plunger and thermostat. Installing l  Tightening torques → Chapter Install in reverse order   Note Replace O-rings. –  Clean and smoothen sealing surfaces for O-rings. –  Lubricate O rings with coolant additive. –  Insert thermostat. l  Fitting position: the hole in the thermostat plunger must face upwards. –  Install battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27. –  Install air cleaner housing → Chapter. –  Fill up coolant → Chapter.
