Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Tray -VAS 6208-, see equivalent → Anchor

t  Pliers for spring-loaded band-type clamps -VAS 6499-, see equivalent → Anchor
Removing
–  Drain coolant → Chapter.
  W00-10700
–  Remove support for intake manifold (unscrew bolts -arrows-).
  A15-10144
–  Move wiring clear of bottom coolant pipe.
–  Detach coolant hoses -arrows- from coolant pipe (bottom).
–  Unscrew bolts -1- and -2- and pull coolant pipe out of thermostat housing.
Installing
Reassembly is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:

t  Replace O-rings.
t  Secure all screw joints with serial hose clips → Spare parts catalogue.
–  Fill up with coolant → Anchor.
