| The engine control unit has a self-diagnosis capability. |

| Only disconnect and connect the battery with the ignition switched off, otherwise the engine control unit may be damaged. |

| For trouble-free operation of the electrical components a voltage of at least 11.5 V is necessary |

| In some tests the control unit may detect and store an error. Therefore after completing all checks and repairs the fault memory must be read and if necessary cleared. After erasing the fault memory, the conformance code must be generated. interrogate fault memory → Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051. |

| If the engine starts, runs for a short period and then stops, after fault finding, repairs or component tests, then the fault may lie with the immobiliser blocking the engine control unit. The fault memory must be interrogated and if necessary the control unit matched → Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051. |
